R-Infra set to get licence renewed

Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) on Tuesday invited suggestions and objections from public till 6 July asking them to explain why Reliance Infrastructure Ltd. (R-Infra) should not be granted licence for power distribution in Mumbai suburban area.

R-Infra already holds licence for power distribution for Mumbai suburban area but its licence will expire on 14 August. Mumbai suburban area is spread between Bandra and Bhyander on the western line of suburban railway network, Kurla and Kanjurmarg on the central suburban railway network and Kurla and Mankhurd on harbour line of suburban railway network.

In a notice posted on its website, MERC says prima facie it is satisfied that applicant (R-Infra) meets terms and condition laid down as per Electricity Act 2003 for the grant of distribution licence and commission is proposing to grant the license to the applicant The commission will hold public hearing on suggestions and objections on 9 July.

The applicant had to satisfy conditions like capital adequacy, credit worthiness and meets various other conditions laid down in code of conduct under the Electricity Act to grant of license, said a senior official of the MERC who did not wished to be identified.
