"The collection has gone up from Rs 13,448 crore in 2009-10 to Rs 16,478 crore in 2010-11," Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit , who also holds the charge of Finance department, said.
She said Value Added Tax (VAT) has fetched a maximum of Rs 12,068 crore in the year 2010-11 against a collection of Rs 10,126 crore in the preceding fiscal, posting a growth of 19.18 per cent.
The collection through tax on vehicles has surged by 52.93 per cent compared to collection in 2009-10. The government collected Rs 707 crore in 2010-11 against Rs 462 crore in 2009-10.
"Percentage-wise, we achieved maximum rise in revenue collection through tax on vehicles. Worry is that increase in number of vehicles cause traffic jams but the positive side is that more and more people are capable of buying cars," Dikshit said.
She said government collected Rs 1,355 crore from stamps and registration fees against Rs 930 crore in 2009-10 while collection through sale of liquor has surged by an impressive 23 per cent in the 2010-11 compared to collection in 2009-10.
The government collected Rs 2,027 crore as excise tax between April 2010 and March 2011 as against its collection of Rs 1,644 crore in the same period in the preceding fiscal.
