December sees boost in auto sales

Hero Honda Motors, India's largest motorcycle maker, said its sales in December jumped a third and helped lift the total for 2010 to a record of more than 5 million units.

The company, which also makes scooters, said December sales reached 501,111 units. Full year sales grew 16.4%.

For the three months ended December, it sold about 1.4 million units, 29% higher than the year-ago quarter.

Tata Motors' total sales have shot up 31% (YoY) at 67,441 units while exports jumped 68% (YoY) at 5,809 units. Selling 5,784 units in the same month, smallest car Nano’s sales too was up 60% (YoY). Tata Motors has raised utility vehicles prices by USD 8,700-14,500 and commercial vehicle prices by USD 1,500-30,000

Mahindra and Mahindra's total sales was up 42% (YoY) at 34,062 units while exported 1,999 units tractors in the month of December.

Eicher Motors sold 4,030 units of trucks and buses in the month of December.

Bajaj Auto's total sales shot up by 10% (YoY) at 2.76 lk units from 2.52 lk units in this December. Bajaj Auto exports stood at 95,388 units as compared to 91,369 Units (YoY).

Escorts' total sales in the month of December was up by 34%.
